Fortis Vitam - Helping Youth through CrossFit

Posted on

ReEvolve is in the beginning stages of working on a project with police officer and CrossFit Level 1 Instructor Jonathan Curtis.  Jon is  currently embarking on a project to teach fitness to at-risk and underprivileged youth out of a community centre located in one of Hamilton, Ontario's toughest neighbourhoods.  The East Kiwanis Community Center in Hamilton is located in an area troubled by gangs, drugs, theft and violence especially amongst young people. The project is titled Fortis Vitam ("strong for life" in Latin).  Jon's hope is to use fitness as a tool to inspire these kids (ages 12-19) to make positive choices, and live an active and healthy life.  This project is completely non-for profit and voluntary based; it will be a safe base for youth in need and teach them about CrossFit, community, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Jon is currently looking for equipment to fill the humble space they will be working out of (a small stage area at the back of a gymnasium).

We are looking for the following items (new, used or even slightly damaged):

-gymnastic rings
-barbells (15, 35, 45 #)
-dumbells (anything under 40#)
-bumper plates, weight plates (any weight)
-rubber floorin
-squat stand
-pull up rig/squat stand combo
-rowing machine
-skipping ropes
-medicine balls
-wall clock
-water bottles

CrossFit StoneyCreek and CrossFit Firepower Milton have already begun to donate equipment.  If you, your box, or your company can donate ANYTHING to Fortis Vitam, it will be greatly appreciated.  Jon is willing to pick equipment up.

Please email with any donations.

Within the next few months we will be launching an ititaive with 100% of the profits going towards Fortis Vitam.
